The contrast between Coraline’s Real Parents and her Other Parents is a lot bigger in the movie. In the movie, they are portrayed as workaholics who barely have time for their daughter. In the book, they have simply fallen prey to their real world duties, making money to put food on the table.

Parts of this book, Here in the Real World, are beautifully written. There are quite a few strong but quiet moments/5.

For best Teen books about REAL problems I DEFINITELY think that "Speak" should be at the top of the list. Some books shouldn't be on the list though, even as an option, like the "Uglies" series and books like that since those are impossible to happen in the present.

Here in the Real World would also make an excellent choice for a parent-child book club, reminding any adult readers that, as difficult as it can sometimes be, a child will only be able to spread their wings as wide as the space available to them.

For me, the best part about reading books was being able to relate to the characters—and it still is to this day. When my parent or teacher made a direct connection between the book and my own life, the conflicts in the stories became real to me. I felt deeper empathy for the characters and imagined what I might do in similar circumstances.
